2018 National Caregiver of the Year
While keeping her clients safe in their homes, Deb has brought purpose and laughter to her clients' lives. She has given much to her community and Right at Home with her heart and skill. With these traits and many more, Deb was recognized as the 2018 Right at Home National Caregiver of the Year in May.
In her 13 years as a caregiver with Right at Home Frederick, Deb has forged bonds with many of her clients and their families. In some cases, these friendships have endured long after those she cared for have passed. “I’ve gotten so many second families,” Deb said.
The satisfaction she feels helping those in need is a reward in itself, particularly with those who are near end of life, or those who are particularly difficult and who have turned other caregivers away, but stayed with Right at Home Frederick because of Deb’s ability to reassure and comfort them while providing exceptional, compassionate care. Devotion and determination are part of Deb’s success. That and her wonderful sense of humor at the most difficult time in someone’s life. Deb likes to say, “That’s my mission... kill them with kindness and go in and win them over.” Having a gentle, yet confident manner assures clients that they are in good hands.
Deb’s own challenges caring for her mother, who suffered from Alzheimer’s disease, is further motivation to provide for other families what she had sought so desperately to find for her own mom. The ability to provide clients the choice to have freedom and autonomy of care, in a way that suits their individual needs, is something Deb also strives for.
We thank Deb for all she does and congratulate her on being the 2018 National Caregiver of the Year!
