Aging in Place – 5 Tips to Remain Safe, Independent, and Happy at Home

No Falling Allowed:  If you have fallen lately, your balance has declined or if you feel unstable dressing or bathing you may need assistance. We can do a safety assessment of your apartment, check your balance or recommend the right physical and occupational therapists to assist you.  But be sure to take steps to reduce any risk of falling.

Sitting is the New Smoking:  Be sure to stay active and move throughout the day, as long as you can do it safely. During the daytime get up and move around every 2 hours or less. And if sitting on the couch or in a chair for long periods of time there are many good exercises to help you keep the blood flowing and build your strength.

Sing in the Shower:  Keeping clean is a great way to feel better and stay healthy. Be sure to bathe at least 2-3 times per week and make sure you are safe in the shower.

Find Ways to Serve Others:  Nothing makes life more rich and meaningful than assisting others. And generally you can walk a short distance in almost any direction and find someone who needs encouragement and friendship.

Record Your Life History:  Documenting your life, your memories and lessons learned will inspire and instruct generations to come. Youth that have a knowledge of their forebearers have been shown to weather the trials of life  more effectively. They come to understand they are part of something much bigger than themselves.

Get Help:  To remain safe, healthy and independent may require assistance with activities of daily living. Let us know if you or a friend need assistance with bathing, dressing, medication reminders, light housekeeping, transportation or other. We have services and assistants who can help.
