Sudden Odd Behavior in Senior Loved Ones

Right at Home Memphis East’s staff love what they do because they believe in Right at Home’s mission: increasing the quality of life for those we serve. That includes prioritizing mental health just as much as changing linens, running errands, and meeting our client’s hygiene needs. Sometimes mental health issues can sneak up on people in their later years. What was never an issue suddenly becomes a serious concern. Do these words describe you or a loved one: paranoid, anxious, hysterical, disoriented, fearful, angry, violent, or suicidal? Then it’s time to get help, and it’s a lot easier than you think. These local facilities take Medicare and have in-patient & out-patient treatment plans:

What’s wrong?

Right at Home is not qualified to diagnose any illness. If you notice your senior exhibiting sudden odd behavior such as confusion, disoriented, unusual repetition in word/deed, paranoia, & violence, they need a doctor. Sometimes these symptoms are clues that the senior is dehydrated, has a UTI, or entering the early stages of dementia. Other times it can be a completely different cause. Do not self-diagnose; see a doctor.

After Treatment

After your senior gets the treatment they need, quality of life depends on maintenance. That means taking medicine on time, consuming a healthy diet, staying hydrated, getting appropriate exercise, socializing, and spending some time in the sun. At this point, it’s a great idea to reach out to the Right at Home Memphis office. Our office collaborates with the family to develop a personalized care plan for each and every client. Our caregivers do everything they can to empower their clients to live their best life.
