Grace Atwood, MA Gerontology & Vernon Atwood, CSA

Owners

Grace and Vernon Atwood have been married for over 30 years. They bonded over their shared family values and their passion for helping older adults. For over 20 years they have been active community members of both Orange and Los Angeles County.  Combined they also have over 50 years in the healthcare field.

Grace was raised in a multi-generational household, allowing her to learn from the older adults in her life and encouraging her to help the elderly.  This also influenced her to earn her master’s degree in gerontology with a focus on wellness and longevity, which she uses  in order to best assist Right at Home clients and caregivers. Grace also has over 20 years of leadership experience.  She previously worked as a director of quality engineering for a medical device company, mentoring her employees and ensuring that the company consistently met customers’ expectations.  Grace uses this experience to mentor office staff and employees, as well as to make sure that clients get quality care.

Vernon Atwood is a Certified Senior Advisor (CSA).  His mom was an Registered Nurse and he was always drawn towards healthcare, leading him to work as an engineer for over 30 years in the healthcare industry.  When Vernon’s mom became ill he was able to use a caregiver to watch after her as she was on the other side of the country. He saw first-hand how beneficial it was for family to stay independent in their own homes, which led to him and Grace opening Right at Home Northwest OC.

Ky Garcia

Nursing Advisor

Kylene is our Quality Care Director and has been with Right at Home Northwest Orange County for five years. She has held an LVN for about 6 years. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science in Health Sciences with an emphasis in community care. Additionally, she obtained a certified her RCFE (Residential Care Facility for the Elderly) administrators’ certification.

Prior to working at Right at Home and her nursing background she worked in mental health. She worked in a residential mental health facility and worked on the dual diagnosis unit. After leaving that job she became a caregiver while she waited to take my Vocational Nurse State Boards. After completing her state boards she continued to work with Right at home as a training coordinator. She took about a year off where she worked in hospice and home health care. She started out with us after she graduated from LVN school, as a caregiver. After she received her license, she has held positions in multiple in-home care, home health, palliative and hospice care.

Kylene returned to Right at Home as Training Manager and has become our expert on Dementia care and has taught on many subjects, mostly those that impact families and caregivers taking care of the elderly. She teaches items such as infection prevention, dementia (different forms), depression/ mental health in seniors, nutrition, caregiver burn out, skills training: bed baths, making occupied beds, oral care, pressure sore prevention and other common issues that we see in aging adults. Currently she is preparing to be an Education Ambassador through the Alzheimer's Association of Orange County where she will teach classes to various communities in Orange County.

When she was doing clinical's she realized that those with Dementia were treated differently than those who did not have dementia. After seeing that she wanted to work on making with client's who have dementia easier. She tells us that she appreciates working for a company that places high priority on raising awareness for Dementia. She recently started partnering with Alzheimer's OC to become an Education Ambassador.

Elizabeth Castillo

Training Coordinator

I have been working with Right at Home since September 2019. I Attended Whittier college and graduated in 2018. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology with an emphasis in pre-medicine.

Before joining Right at home, I worked as an internet sales representative.

On my spare time, I would volunteer at our community recreation center where I would teach sports to the youth. This experience provided me with an opportunity to become the women’s basketball head coach at Alhambra High School. I really enjoyed being a role model for the youth community, which is why I decided to get more involved in our community. I want to contribute and make a positive impact not just in our youth community but also in our senior community. That is why I join Right at Home, to be a part of something great! I believe that home care is a great opportunity to establish a strong relationship with our seniors and provide a safe and positive environment.

I was first a caregiver before being a Care Coordinator. My role as a care coordinator includes scheduling, training caregivers, and establish a safe and positive environment for our seniors and caregivers.

Miriam Hernandez

Care Coordinator/Scheduler

Before working at Right at Home, Miriam worked in customer service and in sales for about 10 years. She is passionate about her work and understands the importance of quality caregiving because her son suffers from an intellectual disability. Caring for her son is particularly challenging because he can become aggressive and has a speech impediment. Her experiences have taught her to be patient and to use different ways to communicate with others. It has been a long bumpy road, but she enjoys being a mother and a caregiver. As a member of our team, she has but one goal: to help those that need help.

Berlin Romero

Care Supervisor

Right at Home was my first job, I was right out high school just turned 18 at went straight into caregiving. I have worked for Right at Home for five years. My role at Right at Home ranges from office work to covering shifts. When there aren’t any shifts that need to be covered, I help out in the office with dropping off any needed supplies to caregivers and clients. I also help with training and introducing caregivers to clients. Starting with Right at Home at a young age has given me so many opportunities to learn and grow as a person. Thanks to Right at Home, I was given a scholarship to continue school at Angeles Institute and become a CNA/HHA.
