Right at Home Partners with PAL to Provide COVID-19 Testing
Right at Home and PAL Partner to help flatten the COVID in OC and LA Counties
When reading the Los Angeles Times, it seems like the pandemic is getting worse and worse on a daily basis. With California in the red zone of the country when it comes to infections, it drives home the importance of practicing safety and taking every precaution possible
One precaution our office sought was to test not just our caregivers, but their families, as well. Carlos Garcia, our Compliance Officer, researched testing sites near where our caregivers lived. With several caregivers located throughout our service areas, we wondered if there was a way of centralizing testing. This would benefit caregivers and clients, alike.
After talking with people from Pathology Associates Lab, who were offering free testing at our church, we decided to team together and offer testing through our office. With concern over a possible surge after the holiday season, we managed to conduct the free testing Jan. 5-6.
With PAL providing us 60 Covid-19 test kits, Kylene Garcia, our Director of Quality Care, scheduled testing at our Cypress location.
Reaching out to referral sources, Stephanie Aguilar, Director of Business Development, also consulted with other partners in her network. We also promoted PAL’s free testing at our local church.
Did this help flatten the overall LA and OC county curve?
While conducting 60 tests won't flatten the curve in the Los Angeles and Orange County area, we impacted our clients directly. Every little step leads to bigger results down the road.
Since February 2020, our staff - Carlos Castro, Kylene Garcia, Grace Atwood, Lisette Lira and Elizabeth Castillo - have conducted daily risk analysis, placing clients and caregivers formly on our Covid-19 decision tree. Our team of office staff and caregivers have taken COVID-19 protocols seriously.
Our partnership with Pathology Associates Lab impacted several clients immediately. The husband of a client, who requires 24/7 in-home care, was infected with Covid-19. We helped get the husband isolated, and then arranged testing for everyone in the house (son and grandchildren), as well as each caregiver involved. We are blessed to have a team of caregivers who are willing to work with Covid-19-positive clients.
With the test results, we were able to make the right decisions concerning this client, and all other clients for whom these caregivers help.
Because of its testing with St. Irenaeus, PAL, found 70 Covid-positive cases. That means 70 more people who knew they had Covid, so they could take action not to get others sick.
