In 2001, Paul and Bob were on the forefront of a new industry when they opened the third Right at Home in-home care franchise in the country, quickly becoming in the Twin Cities known for setting industry standards in caregiver & client retention and satisfaction.
Their passion for senior care, however, began long before Right at Home. As a teenager, Paul formed close friendships with elderly neighbors, mowing their lawns and helping with chores around their homes. When Paul and Bob moved to the Twin Cities in 1995, they lived in an elderly neighborhood where they quickly befriended and assisted several neighbors. Bob’s mom, a retired nurse, was hired by a local company as a non-medical caregiver to help seniors and often shared about how the role was so meaningful for her. These experiences spurred Paul and Bob into thinking about how they could help other seniors remain safely at home. Paul had worked in staffing and IT consulting management for 15 years and Bob, meanwhile, worked for seventeen years managing stores for a regional convenience chain. In opening their Right at Home office, they combined their backgrounds, focusing their efforts on finding and training the best caregivers in the industry, knowing that quality caregivers who were appreciated and supported would provide the best possible senior care.
And that belief has guided Right at Home Twin Cities and South Suburbs since 2001. Every year since 2010, Right at Home has ranked in the top ten positions for small businesses in the Top Workplaces rankings in the Star Tribune, being awarded individual awards for Leadership Confidence, Efficiency, Meaningful Work, and Top Management, all based on employee feedback in anonymous surveys. In 2010, Right at Home was also awarded the BBB Integrity Award. In 2021 Home Care Pulse recognized Right at Home Twin Cities as a Leader in Excellence, ranking #26 of the Top 100 agencies in the country! Additionally, three caregivers from their office have been selected as Caregiver of the Year award winners for the national Right at Home RightCare Award.
Even after all these years, Bob still interviews and hires all caregivers. In fact, one of the aspects of owning a senior care business he likes best is working with caregivers. “I like the kind of people, the caregivers, this business attracts,” he explains. In addition to hiring, as COO, Bob manages all company operations, channeling his knack for details and structure into creating an organized and efficient business operation that supports the caregiving and client experience. When he’s not working. Bob enjoys being outside in nice weather—gardening, walking, and biking.
Paul has been care manager for many Right at Home clients over the years, and he continues in that role today. In addition to managing client care, Paul is also CEO, managing finances and company direction, as well as directing community outreach. He enjoys his work through Right at Home because, he says, “It’s the knowledge that I’m helping ease the burden for families, improving the quality of life for seniors while allowing them to remain living in their homes, and providing meaningful employment for great caregivers. It’s a great industry, filled with amazing, caring people.”
When not focused on Right at Home, Paul has been and continues to be involved in many community organizations; currently serving as Treasurer for the Minneapolis Area Senior Workers Association and Fall Aging Conference as well as President of the Avenues for Youth Board. Paul also enjoys working out, reading, and spending time with friends and family.
Our History
During his years working as a hospital administrator, our founder Allen Hager watched many patients, especially seniors, leave the hospital and return home. But they did not necessarily return to health. Allen found that, once at home, a lot of his former patients were unable to care for themselves. He knew that with a little help, most of these people could lead healthy, happy lives in their homes. This became the idea for Right at Home.
After talking to dozens of families about the challenges they faced and what kinds of care would help, he became a certified nursing assistant to experience firsthand the needs of people who required professional assistance to continue living at home.
Today, with the help of Allen’s insights, Right at Home has grown to over 600 locations that serve tens of thousands of clients across the U.S. and around the world.
