2018 Walk4Alz Orange County | Right at Home
Right at Home joins forces with Alzheimer's Orange County to Raise Money and Awareness for Alzheimer's Disease!
Over 5,000 people came out on the beautiful morning of Saturday, November 10, for the Walk4Alz Orange County event. The event raised awareness and money for the local families impacted by Alzheimer's disease. Almost $7000 was raised by the Right at Home Team and overall the event raised over $450,000 for Alzheimer's programs and services. We need every penny we can get to help Alzheimer’s Orange County fight for the cure and help families struggling with the disease. This walk helps focus on the effort and it caps off the year of working with this fantastic organization. During the year, the Right at Home Team partners with Alzheimer's OC by handing out their cards to all clients with Dementia symptoms and we also co-present at smaller events and sponsor larger events that Alzheimer’s OC put on. Why do we do this? One reason is that this is an epidemic in Orange County and in the nation. Alzheimer’s disease is the third cause of death in Orange County, CA. Besides raising money, Saturday was a lot of fun and there were many moments that reminded us all why we started these businesses in the first place. We met teams that have been coming to the walk for 5 years after their loved one passed due to this horrible disease. Also, we met up with other in-home care company owners and we all realized we are unified in fighting the disease. We all work at creating peace and respite for family caregivers struggling to meet the incredible needs of taking care of family members with Alzheimer’s. We also had a lot of fun at the walk. We got to take photos with Star Wars characters and we got to walk onto the field at Angel’s stadium where the 2002 and 2019 World Series champions played! Shout out to Angels' Shohei Ohtani for winning Rookie of the Year! Another great thing about the walk, is that it provides us a chance to run into others in the community who are committed to easing the pain of this disease.
Fundraising is still open until December 31st. Every bit helps, so help the Orange County Right at Home Team meet our goal of $8000 and Alzheimer’s Orange County meet their goal of half a million dollars.
