Our Mission
Put simply, our mission is to improve the quality of life for those we serve. Of course, we recognize that everyone’s idea of “quality of life” is different, which is why it’s so important to us to make you an active part of your own care plan. We want you to be in the driver’s seat regardless of any limitations or challenges you’re facing.
Most of all, we believe aging isn’t just about staying healthy, safe and independent. It’s also about living well.
Meet Steve and Christina Gettins
Right at Home of Lower Berks County, Upper Chester County and Western Montgomery County, Pennsylvania is owned by Steve and Christina Gettins. The couple expanded Right at Home services into lower Berks and more of western Montgomery counties in 2015.
Their Backgrounds
Steve graduated from Cornell University where he played football and actively participated in Sigma Nu Fraternity. He spent the next 19 years in multi-unit business management for Target and Dick’s Sporting Goods, and in business development for Cintas.
Christina received her Bachelor of Science in health policy and administration and her M.B.A. from Penn State University. She has 20 years of experience in the health industry.
Senior Care Has a Personal Meaning to the Couple
In 2006, his father fell ill with liver cancer; this personal experience sowed the seeds of home care in Steve’s mind. “My entire family stepped in to take care of my father as well as we could, but my mother was doing the bulk of the work. She wanted to be there as his wife, but she was spending most of her time doubling as his caregiver. We did not know at the time that home care existed, but we wish we had. It would have given my mother a break to enjoy their remaining time together,” said Steve.
Christina felt the same. The decline she witnessed in her father-in-law became an inspiration for her to enter the home care industry eventually. Years prior to that, Christina decided to personally care for her grandfather soon after graduating from college. She took “Pop” in and out of nursing homes / senior care facilities / hospitals and finally decided to provide live-in care for him in his final years.
“People want to stay in their homes when going through a health crisis because it allows for a higher quality of life. I think home care service really speaks to people who are going through the same experiences Steve and I had with our families,” said Christina.
Why They Chose the Home Care Business
The Gettins learned about home care through a fraternity brother of Steve's. “We wanted to be able to offer our community’s families and elderly the support and resources needed to get through a tough time,” said Christina. “We decided that Right at Home has the best service model and is perfect for us,” Steve concluded.
Steve has a simple motto for his Right at Home office. “We want to make sure we know each client on an individual basis so we can personalize our services toward his/her specific needs,” he said.
The Gettins' Family Life
The couple and their son, Gavin, reside in the Southern Lehigh School District where Gavin plays flag football while Steve coaches. Christina previously volunteered with hospice. She and Gavin are currently volunteering at Animals in Distress, a no-kill animal shelter, and at a local food pantry called Betty Lou’s Pantry. When not working, playing sports or volunteering, the family loves to watch cooking shows like “Chopped” and “Master Chef Junior” to unwind.

Free Wheelchair Mission
Globally, an estimated 70 million people with disabilities have no access to a wheelchair. Those who cannot walk must crawl or be carried to their destination. In collaboration with a network of like-minded partners, Free Wheelchair Mission has distributed more than 1 million wheelchairs to people with disabilities in 93 developing countries around the world, providing renewed dignity, independence and hope through the gift of mobility, at no cost to the recipient.
As an organization, our work with Free Wheelchair Mission began in 2016 as we looked for a partner that would help us further our mission of improving lives worldwide. To date, our team’s efforts have raised more than $400,000 that has funded over 5,000 wheelchairs, which were distributed through life-changing Vision Trips to Vietnam, Ecuador and Costa Rica.
Josiah’s House
Over half of the children living in the Dominican Republic live below the poverty line and can be found on the streets in at-risk surroundings in order to make money. Josiah’s House runs family-style homes that provide vulnerable boys and girls with the basic necessities, education, life skills, and family home atmosphere needed to succeed.
Recently, 70 Right at Home offices came together to support Josiah’s House by supplying everyday items for the children of Josiah’s House. The group delivered suitcases full of clothing, personal hygiene items, toys, and other supplies.
