A Summer of Stories: My Dad, Zane Reisman, and the Veterans' Circle Time Conversations
Hello, lovely readers!
It's Beth Sholom here. Today, I'm drawing back the curtains on something deeply personal, a story that sits snugly in the core of my heart. It's about my father, Zane Reisman, and a tapestry of stories and memories shared during the "Veterans Circle Time Conversations" this summer across Central New Jersey.
For those who might not know, my father, at a sprightly 92, is a proud veteran of the Korean War. With the badge of a Yeoman 2nd class (YN2) from his days on the USS Rockwall, Dad's history is a vibrant testament to service, sacrifice, and dedication. And this summer, he donned another hat – that of a storyteller and an empathetic listener, participating in these veterans' gatherings.
Picture this: veterans from the riveting World War II era, the intense Korean War days, and the tumultuous Vietnam War period, coming together. A mingling of stories, experiences, and raw, heartfelt memories. In this symphony of voices, Dad's was a note that resonated deeply, drawing others out and weaving a narrative of shared experiences.
Having been at one of these sessions, I can tell you the atmosphere was electric with camaraderie, respect, and understanding. It was laughter and tears; it was a dance of memories that spanned decades, and at the heart of it was my father, with his stories from the USS Rockwall and his genuine interest in others' tales.
Now, as I reflect on this, I'm reminded of why I am so deeply involved with Right at Home Central New Jersey. My father, with his commitment to community and his spirit of service, serves as a continuous inspiration. At Right at Home, we are driven by the same values – a commitment to care, especially for our veterans. They've given so much, and it's our mission to ensure they receive the love, care, and respect they deserve.
Dad, your energy, your stories, and your zest for life inspire not just me, but our entire community. You're a testament to the resilience, heart, and spirit of our veterans, and I couldn't be prouder. Your journey fuels our dedication at Right at Home, reinforcing our pledge to honor and care for our heroes every single day.
With immense pride and love,
Beth Sholom
