Career Paths and Advancement

Right at Home – Northern Michigan is proud to offer our team members more than just a job. Our industry-leading career advancement program features ongoing training and education for our caregivers, providing opportunities to expand your knowledge, skills and experience. Career Paths boxesAs you gain experience during our advancement program, you can also begin to specialize in the types of care you provide or clients you support.

At Right at Home – Northern Michigan, we offer four career paths, including:

Direct Care Worker: The Direct Care Worker career path is the primary route for advancement for many caregivers. This path provides careers taking care of most of our clients and includes home chores, errands/transportation, medication reminders and help with all daily living activities.

Dementia and Cognitive Support:  Our Dementia and Cognitive Support career track specializes in working with clients whose cognitive function has been impacted by an injury or illness. Although this typically involves clients with dementia, it can also include stroke patients or those with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Caregivers will focus on providing care based on the client’s level of activity/capability, their personhood, as well as life goals and preferences.

End of Life Support:  Our End-of-Life career path focuses on helping clients fulfill their final wishes. These caregivers often work with a diverse team, including skilled care, hospice and counselors providing service to their clients and their families.

Life Skills & Guidance Coach: Our Life Skills & Guidance Coach career route serves clients who receive services through Community Mental Health (CMH). Through CMH, we service individuals with developmental disabilities and mental illness. These caregivers support Activities of Daily Living and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (ADLs and iADLs) as well as community inclusion and person-centered goals.

Wherever your interests lie, we offer various career paths to help you pursue the type of care work that is most meaningful and rewarding for you.
