Alzheimer's and Parkinson's Support Groups - Ventura County

Right at Home of Ventura County is a strong advocate of support groups. These groups present a forum for family caregivers to share their stories, express their frustration and doubts in an environment that provides emotional support to the participants who are quite vulnerable. Phil Chandler, our owner, has facilitated two Alzhiemer’s Support groups for six years, and currently participates as a substitute facilitator for Alzhiemer’s and Parkinson’s support groups.

One of our participants, Lyle Holchbacher, lost his lovely wife Mary to Alzhiemer's disease a couple of years ago. As a retired engineer, Lyle made a comprehensive list of all the tasks he performed to take care of Mary's estate. Lyle found that the articles and other resources he consulted, while helpful, didn't cover the entirety of his needs. He would like to share his list with anyone that finds themselves in a similar situation, and Right at Home of Ventura county is pleased to assist by providing access on our website.

Support Groups in Ventura County

Family members are often thrust into the role as caregiver when a loved one has a chronic illness. Family caregivers have no training besides common sense and they face each day putting one foot in front of the other, doing the best they can.

This is where support groups can help. By providing a safe and private venue where others who living with the same issues can meet, share stories, compare notes on how their loved one is doing, share information about favorite doctors, medications, and symptoms, support groups provide an essential outlet for the family caregiver.

Some support groups provide speakers on relevant topics. One recent Parkinson’s support group hosted a doctor discussing the different medications available to mitigate symptoms,  and a Alzheimer’s Support group had a hospice present information about end of life.

Ventura County is fortunate to have a robust community of support groups, some in person and some online.

There are groups at various times throughout the month and in different cities for:
