The Importance of Community
Right at Home Northwest Oklahoma City is committed to being an integral and active member of our community. As an in-home care provider, we understand seniors' connections and relationships are key to living vital lives as they age. Likewise, we know as a company that having strong connections and relationships in the community is key to ensuring seniors get the resources, education, and care they need.
Merry Christmas 2022
From door decorating in assisted living facilities, to celebrating Christmas with our staff & caregivers, sharing dinner with our friends in the industry, to Christmas with Dean Martin at Yale Theatre! It has been a fun pact and very busy December! We would like to take this opportunity to raise a glass and make a toast to all our valued clients, caregivers, staff, and friends!!
Merry Christmas! Be safe, slow down, hug the ones around you, take time to remember that ones that aren’t, share a story of Christmas past so that your stories can live on the hearts of the young. Enjoy every minute and be happy in your heart!
Merry Christmas and God Bless to all!

Walk to End Alzheimer's 2022
It was a bit windy, but it is Oklahoma! Another early morning start to help set up the morning events for the 2022 Walk to End Alzheimer’s. We had over 150 volunteers, superhero’s, local high school marching bands, pom, cheer, face painters, ghost busters, a special shout out to our entertainers, Senior Follies, Gary Parks, and Blake Bricker!
The energy level for this event is always thru the roof, and this year was no different. We always meet great people when helping Jessica and her crew set up for The Walk and this time was no exception.
There were hundreds of people out to support the cause and thousands of the Alzheimer’s Flowers to put together!

Vitals & Transfers — Training to Best Serve Clients' Needs
Right at Home Northwest Oklahoma works hard to ensure caregivers are in top form for our clients. Clients rely on caregivers, and we rely on our caregivers. As a leading in-home care provider, it’s important that we continuously train and review field processes with our caregivers. This week we focused on taking vitals, with a variety of devices, and how to make safe transfers for our clients and caregivers.
Thank you to our CNA Caregiver’s who attended and to our LPN-Tylynn that taught the class! We had a great turn out and great and it’s always fun to see each other and catch up.

Cognitive Care Training at Village on the Park
As the top private home care agency in Oklahoma City, Right at Home is committed to continuous caregiver development. In July we spent time with Village on The Park, Oklahoma City, Memory Care and Assisted Living staff working on skills that help cope with the effects of dementia. Putting yourself in their shoes while trying to function through activities of daily life can be sad and eye opening. In the next 30 years the number of Americans age 65 and older with Alzheimer's dementia may grow to 13.8 million. It’s important that we know how to care for our aging community!
When should someone with dementia go into a care home?’ is a question you may have asked yourself. Knowing when someone with dementia should move into residential or nursing care can be difficult. The main thing to think about is whether your loved one’s needs are met at home; is moving into a care home in their best interest?
If your loved one is unable to live independently and cannot care for themselves anymore, moving into a residential setting will give them the benefit of 24-hour care and support.
Thank you, Village on the Park for allowing Right at Home to be a part of this very important training event!
Meals on Wheels with Right at Home
For millions of our aging neighbors, there are good days and there are bad days. That’s why a knock at the door from Meals on Wheels is not only comforting, but at times, lifesaving.
It’s our privilege to help our church deliver Meals on Wheels to our local community. The food is homemade, hot, fresh and smells great! The folks on our route are always happy to see us pull up and are ready to eat!
If you know someone that may need a little assistance with a fresh cooked meal, please contact your local Meals on Wheels office.
Gearing Up for Gatherings and Festivals
Right at Home-Oklahoma City, we’re getting ready for our upcoming gatherings and festivals. It seems like a lifetime ago since we were able to get out and be a part of the community! Come meet the Right at Home staff at Czech Fest-Yukon Oklahoma, October 2, 8-5 pm, booth #41.
The first weekend in October marks the Oklahoma Czech Festival, a Yukon tradition celebrating the town’s rich Czech heritage. Festivities begin Friday evening with a carnival in downtown Yukon.
Sample delightful Czech foods including kolaches and sausages prepared by the Oklahoma Czechs, Inc. Members and volunteers bake more than 2,500 dozen kolaches, which typically sell out before noon! Shop dozens of arts and crafts booths and festival vendors.
Flu Shot Clinic 2021
September and October are the best times to get your flu shot. The flu vaccination is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones against flu and its potentially serious complications. Millions of people get the flu every year and every flu season is different. Influenza can affect people differently and hundreds of thousands of people are hospitalized with flu-related illness every year. Flu can mean a few days of feeling bad and missing work or it can result in more serious illness.
Last week we joined teams with Walgreens to provide flu vaccination for some of our communities. Thank you, Walgreen’s, for supporting Right at Home-OKC. It was great to see familiar faces and your staff was great with everyone!
Be safe and get your flu shot as soon as you can!

Thank You to Our Virtual Walk Team!
On Saturday, Aug. 15th, Right at Home Oklahoma City was proud to join the largest event in our city dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Parkinson's families. It is more than just a fundraiser; it’s an opportunity to come together to raise awareness and celebrate the lives of the more than 15,000 Oklahomans living with Parkinson’s Disease. The Parkinson Foundation of Oklahoma "Rally Walk and 5K" supports the work the foundation does to inspire hope and transform life for Parkinson patients and families in Oklahoma. As an organization operating solely in Oklahoma, 100% of donations will stay in state to provide programs and services to local families.

In addition: It was a honor and a privilege to meet a true WWII to hero, Mr. Raymond Duncan, while attending the 50+Better Living Expo.
Staff Sgt. Raymond Duncan served as an Air Force crew chief mechanic while stationed in England during World War II. At 97 years old, memories fade. For Duncan, his memories from WWII are vivid. Duncan still dreams about the day in 1944 when a buzz bomb went off over his base a second too late, sparing his life. “It was a quick, ‘tatatatatat,’ when the engine on that buzz bomb was firing,” the veteran said. “When I came back and worked at Tinker Air Force Base for 27 years, I hear one of those engines fire and chills ran through me.” Duncan’s crew, the 487th Bomb Group, led the largest air raid during the war. He said 235 members didn’t make it back. “Nobody tried to make friends because you didn’t know who was coming back and who wasn’t,” he said. Duncan received a Presidential Unit Citation and Good Conduct Ribbon, among other honors. “Had we not won the war, we had lost that war, I wouldn’t be here and neither would you,” he said.
